Jharkhand News : People across Jharkhand will get a chance to enjoy the New Year amid mild sunshine on Thursday. In the capital Ranchi and other parts of the state, morning fog is expected to clear as the sun rises, making way for clear skies during the day. However, cold conditions will intensify again at night. According to the weather department, the next five days are likely to remain mostly clear across the state, with pleasant sunshine during daytime hours.
The Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for fog in nine districts of Jharkhand. Parts of the Santhal and Kolhan regions may witness fog during morning hours, which is expected to dissipate after sunrise. Districts under yellow alert for dense fog during morning and evening hours on Thursday and Friday include Garhwa, Palamu, Chatra, Latehar, Hazaribagh, Koderma, East Singhbhum, West Singhbhum and Seraikela-Kharsawan.
Over the past 24 hours, cold wave conditions prevailed in 15 districts of the state. Except for Latehar, minimum temperatures in most districts dropped below 10 degrees Celsius. The lowest minimum temperature was recorded in Gumla at 3.9°C, while Latehar recorded a minimum of 11.5°C. In most parts of Jharkhand, both maximum and minimum temperatures are running nearly five degrees below normal, leading to severe cold during night hours.
Cold Winds to Continue
Weather scientist Abhishek Anand said that cold winds are likely to continue in Ranchi and nearby districts for the next five days, especially during morning hours. Southern parts of the state will continue to experience chilly conditions, while dense fog is expected in some northern districts over the next two days.
Meanwhile, dense fog covered several northern districts from Palamu to the Santhal region. In Medininagar, morning visibility dropped to 300 metres, while Deoghar recorded visibility of 650 metres. Ranchi, however, witnessed relatively clear weather during the morning hours.
