Man Kills Wife to Marry Lover in Palamu, Body Buried in Pit: Family

Jharkhand News : A chilling case driven by superstition has emerged from Jharkhand’s Garhwa district, where a woman allegedly plotted the murder of a man to avenge her daughter’s death. Police have arrested three people, including the woman, for killing a man on suspicion of practising witchcraft.

Bansidhar Nagar Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Satyendra Narayan Singh said that on Saturday, police received information about an unidentified body found in a passenger shed near Dudhmaniya Ghat on the Bhavanathpur–Ketar main road under Bhavanathpur Police Station area.

During investigation, documents recovered from the spot helped police identify the deceased as Rukhi Rajwar, a resident of Murma Kala village under Pandu Police Station area in Palamu district. The victim had been shot in the head.

Murder Planned to Avenge Daughter’s Death

As the probe progressed, police detained Sita Rajwar, a resident of Semri village under Untari Road Police Station area. During interrogation, she confessed that she had conspired with her cousin’s husband Manoj Rajwar to kill Rukhi Rajwar.

Further investigation revealed the involvement of Manmati Kunwar, a resident of Singhintoli village, following which she was also arrested.

According to police, Sita Rajwar’s daughter had died a few days earlier. Due to deep-rooted superstition, Sita was made to believe that her daughter’s death was caused by witchcraft. Rukhi Rajwar was accused of practising witchcraft, which allegedly led Sita to plan his murder as an act of revenge.

Shot Dead After Being Taken on Bike

SDPO Singh said that on Friday night, the three accused took Rukhi Rajwar on a motorcycle to the Bhavanathpur–Ketar road. After consuming alcohol, Sita Rajwar allegedly shot him dead. After the murder, the accused hid the weapon near the crime scene.

Based on their disclosures, police recovered two country-made pistols, one live 3.15 bore cartridge, one empty cartridge, a mobile phone, and a motorcycle used in the crime.

All three accused were produced before a court on Sunday and sent to judicial custody. Police also revealed that Manmati Kunwar had earlier served a jail term in a witchcraft-related case.

Police officials reiterated that strict action would be taken against crimes rooted in superstition and warned people against taking the law into their own hands.
