Jharkhand News : President Droupadi Murmu attended the 45th Convocation Ceremony of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT-ISM), Dhanbad, on Friday. During the event, she awarded medals and degrees to 37 gold medalist students and released a commemorative postal stamp marking the institute’s centenary year. The event was graced by Jharkhand Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, and several other dignitaries.
While addressing the gathering, President Murmu congratulated all graduating students and acknowledged the contribution of their parents and teachers. She emphasized that this day is a milestone in the lives of the students as they embark on new journeys—whether in jobs, higher education, research, or entrepreneurship. She urged them to focus not only on personal success but also on collective progress to achieve the goal of a developed India by 2047.
The President highlighted the illustrious legacy of IIT (ISM), Dhanbad, which was originally established to produce experts in mining and earth sciences. Over time, the institute has expanded its academic scope and has now emerged as a premier center of higher education and research in various fields.
Jharkhand Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar, while addressing the students, noted President Murmu’s deep connection with Jharkhand. He recalled her over six-year tenure as the Governor of the state and acknowledged her significant role in the region’s development.
Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, in his speech, stressed the need for India to lead in economic policies without compromising its core values. Referring to the Indian philosophy of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam (The world is one family), he encouraged students to embrace Indian cultural wisdom. He also cautioned against blindly depending on technologies like Google, ChatGPT, and Grok, calling them “destructive gurus” that need to be approached carefully.
During the ceremony, a total of 1,880 students were awarded degrees. Among them, 37 received gold medals, 35 were honored with silver medals, and 21 received other awards for academic excellence.
