Ranchi Kidnap Case: Gang Link to Bengal-Bihar, Police Suspect Child Sale Plan

Jharkhand News : In a major development in the recovery case of Ansh and Anshika—abducted from Jagannathpur’s Mausi Bari Khatal area—Dhurwa police have brought the arrested couple on a five-day remand for intensive interrogation. The accused, identified as Soni Kumari and Nav Kherwar alias Surya, have reportedly revealed details of their wider network during questioning.

According to investigators, the duo told police they had connections with child-lifting gangs operating in West Bengal and Bihar. Based on these disclosures, police suspect the accused may have planned to sell the two children after the abduction—either in Bengal or Bihar. The accused have also shared names of other suspected members linked to the racket, and police are now verifying these leads.

The children were allegedly kidnapped from Shalimar Bazaar on January 2, following which an FIR was registered at Dhurwa police station. Despite search efforts, police initially failed to get a concrete lead. A breakthrough came when a युवक (young man) in Chitarpur, Ramgarh, reportedly spotted the children and informed police—leading to their safe recovery and the arrest of the couple.

Police sources say the accused had been living in Ranchi for around five months, camping near the Dhurwa Smart City route where Guluguliya families reside. During interrogation, they allegedly admitted they had been scouting for children for months—moving around while selling balloons and keeping an eye out for targets. The duo also claimed they stayed around the Hatia area after the abduction and fled to Ramgarh with the children when police pressure increased. Investigators believe they were preparing to escape to Bihar with the children, but were caught before they could move them further.

Senior forest-and-police level coordination is not part of this case, but the police have indicated that further arrests may follow as the network trail expands.
