World News : Russia launched a large-scale drone and missile assault across Ukraine from Wednesday morning through late night, leaving at least 14 people dead and more than 80 injured, according to Ukrainian authorities. The attacks caused widespread destruction, including the collapse of a residential building in the capital city of Kyiv.
Rescue teams pulled 10 people alive from the debris of the collapsed building, while one person was confirmed dead and 16 others were injured in the capital alone.
Around 1:00 a.m. local time, Ukraine’s Air Force issued a nationwide air alert, warning that Russia had deployed MiG-31 bombers and that all regions of the country were under threat of ballistic missile strikes.
According to The Kyiv Independent, Kyiv Military Administration chief Tymur Tkachenko warned that Russian drones were approaching the capital and missile attacks were also likely. Loud explosions were heard in Kyiv around 3:08 a.m. as Ukrainian air defense systems attempted to intercept incoming drones and missiles. Additional ballistic missile explosions were reported between 3:15 and 3:20 a.m., followed by another wave shortly after 3:44 a.m.
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said debris from intercepted drones sparked fires in several districts. A five-story residential building caught fire in the Dniprovskyi district, while debris damaged roads, office buildings, parking structures, and residential complexes in other parts of the city. A 12-story residential building in the Obolonskyi district was also hit, and a car caught fire in the Solomianskyi district.
Officials said Russia targeted critical and civilian infrastructure using nearly 800 drones in multiple waves of attacks. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had earlier warned of possible missile strikes following intelligence reports of intensified Russian operations.
