Tribal Organizations Express Gratitude to CM for Approval of PESA

Jharkhand News : Representatives of various tribal organizations met Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Friday at the Chief Minister’s residential complex on Kanke Road, Ranchi, to express their gratitude for the state government’s approval of the PESA Rules (Panchayats [Extension to Scheduled Areas] Act) by the Cabinet.

A delegation comprising members of the Central Sarna Committee, Raji Paddha Sarna Prayer Assembly, and the Tribal Boys’ and Girls’ Hostel, Ranchi, thanked the Chief Minister for this historic decision. The delegation arrived at the CM residence with traditional drumbeats, reflecting their joy and enthusiasm.

Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Hemant Soren said that over the past two days he had been receiving messages reflecting the emotions and excitement of people from cities, villages, and towns across the state. He noted that the tribal and indigenous communities of Jharkhand have historically made immense sacrifices to protect their water, forests, land, and cultural heritage.

The Chief Minister said that while several laws and regulations have been enacted over time, some supported the interests of tribal communities while others went against them. However, the people of Jharkhand have always fought unitedly to correct unjust laws. He emphasized that Jharkhand is a land of sacrifices, where many brave sons laid down their lives to safeguard its identity and natural resources.

Jharkhand: A Land of Sacrifice and Struggle

Chief Minister Soren recalled that after a long struggle led by visionary leaders, Jharkhand was finally formed as a separate state in the year 2000. Since its formation, the state has witnessed many ups and downs, including attempts to undermine the rights of tribal and indigenous people. He said that the responsibility of leading the state was entrusted to him by the people, and despite challenges, the government continued to move forward with determination, ultimately ensuring the victory of justice.

PESA to Strengthen Tribal Self-Governance

The Chief Minister stated that strengthening Panchayati Raj institutions remains a key priority of the government. The approval of the PESA Act is a decisive step toward ensuring tribal self-governance, dignity, and protection of cultural heritage. With the implementation of PESA, Gram Sabhas in Scheduled Areas will gain greater decision-making powers.

He described tribal communities as the soul of Jharkhand’s civilization and culture, and said that PESA will play a crucial role in strengthening their rights, self-respect, and autonomy, proving to be a milestone in the state’s overall development.

Awareness of PESA Rules Essential

Highlighting Jharkhand’s progress, the Chief Minister said the 25-year-old state is steadily moving forward. Recently, around 10,000 youths were provided government appointments, and more employment opportunities will be created in the future. He emphasized that the PESA Rules were approved after extensive deliberation and urged people to familiarize themselves with the provisions so that the benefits reach the last person in society.

Strong Villages Mean a Strong State

Chief Minister Soren cautioned against elements attempting to mislead villagers and stressed the importance of awareness about government policies. He said protecting the innocent people living in remote rural areas and ensuring their rightful entitlements is a collective responsibility. Reiterating that his government is a “government of villages,” he said that only when villages are strong will the state be strong.

He thanked the gathering for their enthusiasm and support, stating that their faith and blessings give him renewed strength to work with greater dedication.
