Peter Moor Retires from International Cricket After Representing Zimbabwe and Ireland

Sports News : Veteran cricketer Peter Moor, who represented both Zimbabwe and Ireland, has announced his retirement from international cricket at the age of 35. Moor’s career spanned across two nations, making him one of the few cricketers in the world to play Test matches for two different countries.

Born in Harare, Zimbabwe, Moor made his ODI debut in November 2014 against Bangladesh. He later debuted in T20Is in 2016 against Afghanistan and Tests the same year against New Zealand. During his stint with Zimbabwe, Moor played 8 Tests, 49 ODIs, and 21 T20 Internationals.

Moor held an Irish passport through his grandmother and became eligible to represent Ireland in October 2022. He was picked for Ireland’s Test squad during the 2023 tours of Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, eventually playing 7 Test matches for the Irish side. However, he never featured in ODIs or T20Is for Ireland.

Statistically, Moor had a better run with Zimbabwe in the longest format, averaging 35.53 with five half-centuries. In contrast, his batting average for Ireland in Tests dropped to 14.35, with a single half-century—which came in July 2024 against Zimbabwe, ironically helping Ireland secure a victory.

Moor now joins a rare group of only 17 players in cricket history who have played Test cricket for two different countries. His international career might have lacked star-level statistics, but his dedication, adaptability, and sportsmanship earned him admiration from both teams and fans alike.

In his retirement statement, Peter Moor said:

“It has been the greatest honor to wear the jerseys of two proud cricketing nations. I thank everyone—teammates, coaches, boards, and supporters—for being part of this incredible journey.”

Cricket Ireland and Zimbabwe Cricket both extended their wishes to Moor, praising his contributions on and off the field. While Moor’s dual-country journey might be over, his name will remain etched in cricket history as a symbol of international cricket’s global and personal dimensions.
