Jharkhand News : In a tragic incident late Saturday night, nine cows lost their lives after being hit by a speeding LPG gas tanker on National Highway 18 (NH-18) in the Baharagora police station area of East Singhbhum district. The accident occurred near Baharagora College, where ten cows were resting on the road divider when the tanker (registration number NH-01L-0259) ran over them. According to eyewitnesses, the tanker was en route from Tatanagar (Jamshedpur) toward Kolkata. Upon receiving information, police from Baharagora and Barsole stations rushed to the scene and seized the tanker. Legal proceedings are currently underway.
The incident sparked anger among the local residents, who blamed the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) for the negligence. They claimed the bypass road was poorly designed, and due to incomplete construction, heavy vehicles are forced to use the main highway. This puts daily commuters, students, pedestrians, and local residents at constant risk.
Residents expressed their frustration and demanded that the road construction be completed immediately and proper safety measures be implemented. They warned that if no action is taken, they may resort to protests.
This accident once again raises serious questions about road safety and infrastructure planning on national highways. The local community has urged authorities to treat the situation with urgency, not just to prevent animal deaths, but to protect human lives as well.
Such repeated incidents highlight the dire need for proper traffic management and enforcement of road safety norms. Locals hope that the authorities, especially NHAI and district administration, will take strict measures to avoid similar accidents in the future.
