Natural Jalabhishek by Bagmati and Lakhandey Rivers in Sawan

Bihar News : During the sacred Hindu month of Sawan, thousands of devotees flock to temples and shrines dedicated to Lord Shiva. Amid this spiritual fervor, there exists a remarkable temple in Bihar’s Muzaffarpur district, where Lord Shiva receives a divine jalabhishek (water offering) not by human hands, but through the natural flow of two rivers.

Located in Dharoun village under Katra block, this ancient temple, known as Baba Dhaneshwar Nath Mandir, is uniquely situated at the confluence of the Bagmati and Lakhandey rivers. Every year during Sawan, these rivers rise and naturally flow over the Shivlinga, creating a continuous stream of water over Lord Shiva.

Local priest Dani Baba, who has been serving at the temple for years, says that during this month, the Shivlinga remains submerged, symbolizing Lord Shiva taking a jal samadhi (water immersion). Devotees are unable to see the deity throughout the month as the water level remains consistently high. Despite the heavy rains and floods that often hit the region, the temple miraculously remains unharmed.

Devotees travel from far and wide, including nearby districts like Sitamarhi and even neighboring Nepal, to witness this natural phenomenon. Due to the absence of a bridge, pilgrims often use boats to cross the river and reach the temple. Despite these challenges, the faith of the devotees remains unshaken.

Local resident Sunil Kumar shares, “This temple is truly divine. In Sawan, Lord Shiva receives jalabhishek directly from nature itself. Anyone who visits this temple and prays with devotion sees their wishes fulfilled.”

According to legends and testimonies, the temple has withstood several calamities over the years, yet remains untouched by destruction. This has only strengthened its spiritual significance and attracted more visitors over time.

Every Sawan, this sacred site becomes a rare confluence of faith, nature, and spirituality. It not only showcases the deep-rooted beliefs of the people but also highlights the harmony between religion and natural forces.
