Ranchi: President Droupadi Murmu departed for Durgapur Airport on Friday morning under tight security from Raj Bhavan, traveling via Harmu Road to Birsa Munda Airport in Ranchi. From there, she boarded a special Indian Air Force aircraft to Durgapur.
She will continue to Dhanbad, where she is scheduled to attend the convocation ceremony at IIT (ISM) Dhanbad, marking the institution’s 100th anniversary. During the event, the President will release a commemorative postage stamp, and present gold medals and degrees to 20 top-performing students. Distinguished guests will include Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar and Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
President Murmu will also visit the Atal Community Innovation Center within the IIT campus, view an exhibition by tribal women, and participate in a tree plantation drive. Additionally, former PM advisor P.K. Mishra will be awarded an honorary Doctor of Science degree.
Security in Dhanbad has been significantly tightened in anticipation of her visit, with 8 IPS officers, 25 DSPs, and over 800 police personnel deployed across key locations.
Earlier, on Thursday, the President visited Deoghar AIIMS to attend its inaugural convocation ceremony, before arriving in Ranchi later that evening for an overnight stay at Raj Bhavan.
