Jharkhand News : As preparations for the Ranchi Municipal Corporation elections gather pace, the administration is witnessing a surge in applications seeking exemption from election duty—many citing unusual reasons. While some officials have sought relief due to their own weddings, others have referenced orthopedic, neurological, or cardiac ailments. In several cases, the Personnel Cell has approved exemptions after scrutiny.
5,500 Officials Deployed; Training in Full Swing
According to the Personnel Cell, around 5,500 officers and staff have been deployed to conduct the civic polls, with training programs underway. The administration maintains that adequate manpower is available and the election process will not be affected.
1,000 Staff Exempted Due to Exam Duty
About 1,000 personnel have been exempted because they are engaged in examination duties. Besides this, many have applied citing personal reasons. Health-related applications largely mention mobility issues, arthritis, joint pain, along with neurological conditions and heart ailments. Officials said exemptions are being granted only in genuine and serious cases to ensure smooth conduct of elections.
Campaign Buzz Grows in Neighborhoods
With the election drumbeat sounding, mayoral and ward councillor candidates have intensified voter outreach. Discussions are heating up across neighborhoods, expected to peak over the weekend. Mayoral hopefuls are keeping a close watch on all 53 wards, aiming for broad-based support.
Women Candidates Voice Expectations
New faces—especially women candidates—are sharing development visions and engaging voters. Women voters are vocal about expectations, urging elected representatives to lead independently, take decisions, and involve communities—especially women and girls—in local governance.
Candidates Guard Against ‘Sabotage’
Candidates are also wary of internal sabotage and are adopting strategies to limit damage—keeping plans confidential and holding closed-door strategy meetings with trusted aides to assess support and numbers.
Overall, while exemptions from duty have sparked chatter, the administration insists preparations remain robust and the civic polls are on track.
