Resuming from their overnight score of 222/5, England relied heavily on Ekansh Singh, who had remained unbeaten on 66 on Day 1. He continued his fine form, stitching a crucial 90-run partnership for the sixth wicket with captain Thomas Rew, who scored a solid 59.
Ekansh eventually scored a remarkable 117 off 155 balls, laced with 14 boundaries and 3 sixes. His knock provided much-needed stability to England’s innings. He later forged a vital 100-run stand for the ninth wicket with James Minto, who chipped in with a handy 46 runs off 89 deliveries, including one six and six fours.
From India’s bowling unit, leg-spinner Naman Pushpak stood out with an impressive spell, claiming 4 wickets for 76 runs. Aditya Rawat and R.S. Ambarish picked up two wickets each, while Henil Patel and Vihaan Malhotra took one apiece.
In their first innings reply, India made an aggressive start. Opener Vaibhav Suryawanshi hit a four and two sixes off Alex Green but was soon dismissed for 20, caught by A.M. French off Green’s delivery.
Following the early dismissal, rain played spoilsport, allowing only 28.3 overs of play on Day 2. At stumps, Ayush Mhatre remained unbeaten on 24, while Vihaan Malhotra was not out on 6. India now trails by 258 runs, with plenty of batting to come.
The match has shown promise with some quality performances, but the weather could play a significant role in how the rest of the Test unfolds.
