Jharkhand News : The notorious Kodha gang from Jurabganj village in Bihar’s Katihar district has emerged as a major challenge for Ranchi Police following a series of daylight robbery incidents in the Bariatu area. The gang, which executed a major loot seven days ago, has managed to evade arrest despite police recovering stolen gold jewellery and valuables from the houses of its members.
Investigations by Sadar Police have revealed that the gang operates across multiple states using highly organised methods. After committing robberies in one city, the gang immediately relocates to another state. To avoid detection, members allegedly obtain random motorcycle registration numbers through online platforms and fix fake number plates on their bikes before carrying out fresh crimes.
Police have also uncovered that women, referred to locally as “Babliyas,” play a crucial role in the gang’s operations. These women actively assist in transporting looted jewellery and valuables back to their native village. According to police sources, after every robbery or snatching incident, the stolen goods are handed over to the women, who return directly to Jurabganj village and manage the sale of jewellery. The proceeds are later distributed among gang members, with women receiving a fixed share.
Officials said Jurabganj village has a population of nearly 3,000, and a significant number of residents are allegedly linked to the gang. Members reportedly stay in the village for only three to four months each year and spend the rest of the time moving across different states to carry out criminal activities. Each group generally consists of four men accompanied by women, who handle logistics and money distribution.
Recently, the gang looted jewellery from a senior CCL official in the Sadar police station area during broad daylight. Following the incident, the accused fled Ranchi in a highly planned manner. Intelligence inputs suggest that the gang members are currently hiding in Maharashtra.
Sadar Police Station in-charge Kuldeep Kumar confirmed that special teams will soon travel to Maharashtra to arrest the absconding accused. Earlier raids in Jurabganj led to the recovery of jewellery worth several lakhs, which has been brought back to Ranchi as evidence. Police say further arrests are expected soon.
