Heavy Rain Alert in Jharkhand on July 13, Yellow Warning Issued for 6 Districts

Ranchi : The weather in Jharkhand is about to take a dramatic turn once again. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for six districts of Jharkhand, warning of heavy rainfall on Saturday, July 13. The alert comes amid active monsoon conditions across the state.

Districts Under Alert

According to the Meteorological Centre, Ranchi, the districts expected to witness heavy rainfall include:

  • East Singhbhum

  • West Singhbhum

  • Simdega

  • Seraikela-Kharsawan

  • Koderma

  • Lohardaga

These regions may experience intense downpours accompanied by strong winds, which could disrupt daily life and affect transportation and local infrastructure. The IMD has advised residents to remain cautious and avoid non-essential travel.

Recent Rainfall Statistics

The monsoon remains highly active across Jharkhand. In the past 24 hours, Ghatsila in East Singhbhum recorded the highest rainfall at 158.4 mm, while the state capital Ranchi received 79.6 mm. Rain showers continued on and off throughout Friday, offering relief from the heat but also causing waterlogging in several areas.

Rainfall Since June

Between June 1 and July 10, Jharkhand has received 482.8 mm of rainfall, significantly higher than the normal average of 285.6 mm for the same period — about 69 mm above average. This reflects a strong monsoon presence in the region this year.

Temperature Drop Observed

The rainfall has led to a drop in temperatures across the state. The recorded maximum temperatures in major cities were:

  • Ranchi: 25.6°C

  • Jamshedpur: 29.5°C

  • Daltonganj: 27.8°C

  • Bokaro: 28.1°C

  • Chaibasa: 28.8°C

Advisory

Given the yellow alert, the public is advised to avoid open fields, stay away from electrical poles and trees during thunderstorms, and keep track of local weather updates. Authorities may issue additional alerts if the situation intensifies.
