Jharkhand News : The Jharkhand Assembly witnessed sharp political confrontations on the third day of its Winter Session as Leader of Opposition Babulal Marandi raised allegations of large-scale irregularities in MBBS admissions across the state. He accused the Jharkhand Combined Entrance Competitive Examination Board (JCECEB) of violating national medical counselling guidelines and demanded a CBI investigation into the matter.
Addressing the House, Marandi said that the MBBS counselling process in Jharkhand lacks transparency and is riddled with serious discrepancies. He alleged that JCECEB has been ignoring the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) guidelines during counselling, resulting in unfair admissions and loss of opportunities for deserving students.
According to him, while the National Testing Agency (NTA) conducts medical entrance examinations and forwards the results to the state board, the JCECEB system is not linked with the NTA portal, leading to manipulation during counselling. This loophole, he claimed, allows candidates to submit fake caste, residential and other forged documents, adversely affecting genuine aspirants.
Marandi accused the board of deliberately maintaining this gap to benefit select individuals. “Dozens of students are suffering because of this flawed system. Medical admission is a matter of students’ futures, and such negligence is completely unacceptable,” he said.
The BJP leader demanded that the ongoing MBBS counselling process be immediately cancelled and conducted afresh under strict supervision. He also called for the immediate removal of top JCECEB officials and a CBI probe to uncover the full extent of alleged wrongdoing.
Warning the government, Marandi said that if corrective steps were not taken promptly, the opposition would not hesitate to disrupt the proceedings of the Assembly. He stressed that transparency in medical education is crucial, given the high competition and importance of MBBS admissions.
The issue led to heated exchanges between the ruling party and the opposition, briefly disrupting the proceedings of the House.
